Air Program Mission
Our mission is to maintain the purity of Missouri's air to protect the health, general welfare and property of the people. The Air Pollution Control Program has 5.2 million "customers." Whether an urban citizen or someone far removed from other people, everyone who lives in Missouri needs and deserves clean air.
What
is the Open Burning Workgroup?
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources' Air Pollution Control Program is forming a workgroup to examine Missouri's open burning regulations. The department is taking this action in response to petitions and comments about the open burning regulations. The department is interested in improving the state's open burning regulations while still protecting the state's air quality by reducing inconsistencies between the different regional and local regulations, adding flexibility to the regulations where appropriate, and clarifying the intent of the regulations.
The Next Meeting
The Open Burning Workgroup concluded its efforts on Feb. 7, 2006. After reviewing the state's four existing open burning regulations, the workgroup decided to develop and draft a new, single open burning regulation that consolidates the state's existing regulations. This new draft rule is currently going through the rulemaking process and is expected to be filed in
early 2007.
