The Environmental Emergency Response Section (EER) has been very active with homeland security. As we have learned by past events, a disaster can strike without warning. It has been a goal of the EER to be prepared for such an event and many accomplishments have been made relating to homeland security. Such accomplishments include Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) training, additional equipment, and conducting practical WMD exercises for EER staff.

The EER State On-Scene Coordinators, located throughout Missouri, have trained in a variety of areas involving WMD. EER personnel have completed over 100 hours of WMD related training. In addition to internal training, conducted by the EER, highly technical training includes:

In addition to training, the EER has acquired new WMD equipment such as instrumentation to detect radiation, biological/chemical nerve and blister agents. Additional equipment includes:

In the event of a homeland security threat, the EER can utilize its training and equipment to aide Missouri's existing 28 Homeland Security Hazardous Materials Teams and help better serve and protect the citizens of Missouri and its natural resources.
