SEPTIC INVESTIGATION OF TABLE ROCK LAKE
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The watersheds that effect Table Rock Lake are the Upper White River Basin and the James River Basin. At Table Rock Lake septic systems and small sewage treatment plants are used for sewage treatment. Table Rock Lake Water Quality, Inc. plans to conduct a study in developed areas on Table Rock Lake to gather specific information to determine if sources of untreated effluent are reaching the lake. This study will investigate the effects of septic effluent and point source wastewater discharges on Table Rock Lake. On-site flourometric analysis of lake water and grab samples testing for total phosphorus and fecal coliform are planned.
The problem of effluent from septic systems entering the watershed needs further investigation. This study will be the first step in a quest to identify and prioritize the "hot spots" for pollution reduction. The long-term goal is to improve water quality in Table Rock Lake. When the local community, both business and individual, is asked what is the biggest problem facing the area, the answer is water quality.
OBJECTIVES
The goal and objective of this study is to produce a written report that will provide information about the contribution of septic systems and point source sewer systems as pollution sources to Table Rock Lake. The information will be used to educate the public with a series of meetings that will present the findings.
This study will investigate the effects of wastewater discharges on Table Rock Lake. Table Rock Lake Water Quality, Inc. will provide overall project coordination and will seek bids for a sewage effluent survey of Table Rock Lake.
PRODUCTS
1. A written final report, including all water quality data, will be submitted to the department, along with an electronic copy of the report.
2. Two area meetings to disseminate this information to area residents and public officials.
