Field Trips and Environmental
Career Awareness Project
For Middle and High School Students Interested in Careers
in Environmental Sciences or Studies (ESS)
The Department of Natural Resources' Field Trips and Environmental Career Awareness Project provides direct, real-world experiences for middle and high school students enrolled in ESS courses.
The department will cover all expenses for field trips to department-regulated facilities where students can see the Department of Natural Resources in action. Venues such as landfills, wastewater treatment plants, quarries, state parks and historic sites, land disturbance/construction sites and many others, will provide students with direct real-world experiences. These field trips will typically include three to four stops, usually departing at 8:30 a.m. and usually returning by 2:30 p.m. These field experiences are designed to meet three goals:
- to increase awareness of local environmental issues,
- to increase interest in environmental careers, and
- to understand the role of the Department of Natural Resources in managing and protecting Missouri’s natural resources.
The department will cover the cost of the bus for the day, up to two substitute teachers, lunch and incidentals. Only 25 field trips will be scheduled for the 2008-2009 school year, so early applications are encouraged.
Interested educators should review the information packet and complete the application form in either PDF format or Word format DOC.
